7 Centuries old Stone Houses in Iran

This is pretty impressive. These are houses in Iran that were allegedly built 700 years ago. I don’t know much about it but it looks like the houses were carved into stone, unless they molded them out of some cement like material 700 years ago. I would still not want to visit Iran, but these houses are pretty impressive.

San Francisco quake of 1906 Now In Color

When you think of photos from the early 1900′s, you probably don’t picture them in color. They’re probably more akin to Leave it to Beaver. But, in fact, color photography has been around since the late 1800′s.

One early adopter of color photography was Frederick Eugene Ives. Ives was best known at the time for inventing halftone printing. He also invented the Photochromoscope system. It was his first color process–one that was too expensive and complex–and therefore a commercial failure.

But Ives’ work on the Photochromoscope did, however, lead to hundreds of color photos between the 1890s and 1910s. The pictures shown here were taken in October, six months after the great earthquake. Most of the photos taken were from the Majestic Hotel, roof but these images are at street level.

Underwater River in Mexico

If you are a professional diver you should visit Cenote Angelita Mexico.

These amazing pictures were taken by Anatoly Beloshchin in the cave Cenote Angelita, Mexico. Here’s his description: “We are 30 meters deep, fresh water, then 60 meters deep – salty water and under me I see a river, island and fallen leaves… Actually, the river, which you can see, is a layer of hydrogen sulphide.”
It must be an unforgettable feeling once you’re there and see it with your own eyes.

VENICE by Chris Anthony

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present “Venice”, the solo exhibition of new works by award-winning Los Angeles photographer Chris Anthony. For his third solo show with the Gallery, Anthony creates an extraordinary world in flux where the moody tides of fact and fiction converge. As global warming causes ocean levels to rise and the melting of Antarctic Ice sheets, a mysterious sinking civilization is unveiled, entitled “Venice”. Inhabited by aquatic survivors and enchanting lost souls, “Venice’s” otherworldly atmosphere is heightened by Anthony’s signature aesthetic and technical artistry. Models and muses Emily Deschanel, Jacinda Barrett, Mercedes Helnwein and lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way and his wife Lindsey Way are featured in the photographs, adding their unique persona to the dramatic narratives. The exhibition marks Anthony’s first major project shot outdoors, and his icy palette of greys and blues creates the illusion of an arctic climate, skillfully deceiving the balmy Venice Beach, California location where the series was photographed. In Anthony’s own words “Venice is a metaphor for a sinking city, deserving of nature’s wrath, leaving its citizens to tread water and explore new ways to sustain life on aquatic earth.”

Chris Anthony is an internationally recognized photographer who was awarded the 2007 Grand Prize in American Photo’s Images of the Year Competition for his “Victims & Avengers” series, which was shown in its entirety for the fi rst time at Corey Helford Gallery in January 2007. He has worked on commercial projects for numerous clients, including Sony Playstation 3 and “The Black Parade” for My Chemical Romance. Anthony’’s work has been featured in gallery exhibitions in Los Angeles, Stockholm, Washington D.C., London and San Francisco. Born and raised in Stockholm, Anthony also briefl y lived in Indianapolis and Florence. In his teens, he worked as a rock photographer and went on to direct music videos and commercials. He currently lives in Los Angeles.

The Pyramids of Giza are the most famous monuments of ancient Egypt. These massive stone structures were built around 4500 years ago on a rocky desert plateau close to the Nile. But the intriguing Egyptian pyramids were more than just tombs for kings. The mysteries surrounding their symbolism, design and purpose have inspired passionate debate. It is likely that many of these mysteries will never be solved.

Close to a Lion from my jeep

A lion jumps on the front of a car while guests watch at the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee, Victoria, Australia… The car has a big piece of glass just in front of the steering wheel with the bonnet sitting in the lions’ enclosure, but from the right angle, it looks like there is no glass

Jeju Island (South Korea) is called “the pearl of Korea”. Every year it attracts the attention of tens of thousands of tourists. One of the sights of this tropical paradise is the land of love – a theme park, opened in 2004 the series, where the garden of erotic sculptures. For relatively conservative South Korean Earth Love on the island of Cheju – a unique phenomenon. The collection of sculptures that illustrate the pleasures of the flesh, continually updated. These sculptures are created not only young, but very well-known Korean sculptors.
