Are you aware from Digg and Reddit? I guess yes, but if you are not then please do let me introduce them. These two websites are the biggest name in social bookmarking sites. These two websites are normally known for providing huge traffic to the websites or blogs. The basic theory behind the two sites is that both works on the principal of user interaction, and they list the news on their home page on the basis of the votes they are getting within a stipulated time frame.

Digg works on the concept of Discover, Select, Share, and Discuss basis. Actually if you are going to submit any news in Digg then the news will be either liked by other people or disliked by them. In case if a news got more likes than the dislikes within a stipulated time frame then it will reach to the first page popularly known as fp of the Digg.

On the other hand Reddit works on the concept of Read, Vote, Explore, and Submit basis. A vote in Reddit means “I found this interesting,” not “This should go on the front page.”

I am an active user in Digg from long time ago, while I am the lucky one whose account was not yet banned by them. I am more than 100% sure that I did not use any type of spam in Digg or in any other social bookmarking site. From last some time I am hearing that people from Digg are shifting towards Reddit. Popularity of Reddit is increasing from some time.

I have seen that people are not getting the 100% satisfaction from Digg and that’s why they are shifting to Reddit. As far as my own experience is concerned then I too have faced a few problem in Digg (You might be interested to check this article: http://www.seonews.in/2008/05/31/the-problem-which-you-can-face-with-digg/) As far as I know that if you will honestly participate in Digg then you will always like it, after all I know the happiness which you get after your news reaches to the fp of Digg. The flow of traffic increases hugely.

But yes it is also true that in some cases judgments of Digg were not good, if you consider them from the human point of view, but if you consider them as a robot then you will say, “What can they do?”. I am well aware that few people are having a different opinion about Digg, and some people feel jealous about a few power diggers. People some time wonders why almost every news submitted by Mr. Baby Man, or msaleem reaches to first page, while lot’s of stories did not reaches to fp despite getting good number of diggs too.

One more matter of regret in Digg is that if some one submitted your site’s news in wrong category or do some unethical then Digg will ban your site, although you have not made any mistake from your end. It means you are facing the guilty of a crime which was made by some one else.

So basically these are the few grievances which is acting as a motivation to the users of Digg to shift to Reddit or some other social bookmarking site. Reddit is happily providing the shed to the people who are coming unhappily from the Digg. Reddit is also one of the top social bookmarking sites of the US and it also provides huge traffic to the websites or blogs. Both the site is having almost the similar facilities and functionalities, though Digg is a bit simpler than the Reddit, as far as my personal opinion concerns.

Some of my friends have opened account in Reddit, and they are getting good amount of visitor too. Some times they complain too that Reddit is not so much user friendly as Digg is. I think some of the visitors of my site who are member in both the site will give some light on the difference between the two sites. I will be waiting to see there views in the form of comment.

On the one hand, Google has become a privacy bogeyman, dropping off the list of the top 20 companies trusted with customer privacy. Ironically, this has come at the same time that Google has upped its commitment to open data policies, which enable users to control their own data privacy policies. Are users suggesting that they can’t trust themselves?

This abandonment of trust in Google also comes in the face of an ever-growing commitment within Google to open source. Google now hosts more than 200 open-source projects, ranging from the more obscure (Protocol Buffers) to the well-known (Chrome browser, Web Toolkit).

Perhaps the drop in trust derives from Google’s refusal to stay in its search sandbox, expanding its reach well beyond the search engine to mobile, for example, with a range of new features planned for the Android mobile open-source platform.

But why the lack of trust? The more Google has expanded its appetite for influence and dominance of the Web, it has has circumscribed its ability to control through open data, open source, and open APIs. As Google hasn’t always had a policy of openness, I’m increasingly impressed by the search giant’s widening commitment to it, even as it has the potential to seriously close off the Web to competitors’ and, ultimately, customers’ detriment.

Is Google perfect? No. But it is also not a 1990s Microsoft-style monopoly. Many of us begrudged Microsoft its dominance because it has been protected through things such as proprietary file formats and (past) illegal tying arrangements. Google does not compete this way. It competes in the open.

Have we lost trust in Google simply because it is winning, and we innately suspect the worst of a company at its scale?
